Client Testimonial

Your clinic provides personal and continuity of care that you would hope for from a veterinary practice - no chopping and changing of vets and nurses and always a great understanding of your relationship with your pets and how much they mean to you.

At the same time, the Animal Clinic staff are professional and efficient. From everyday general care, emergencies or just ordering medication and food, you have never let me or my pets down.

Advanced Surgery & Diagnostics

Animal Hospital Houston - Vet Clinic Houston - Animal Clinics in Houston - Houston Animal Hospital
Any surgery performed at Meyerland Animal Clinic is always undertaken with the knowledge of it being a serious procedure, never to be considered "routine." Anesthesia is never routine and so we always approach it with a team of our veterinarian as well as at least one trained anesthetist technician monitoring your pet's vital signs.

Our procedures all entail the use of intravenous (IV) catheters, fluid pumps and intravenous fluids so that we can prevent dehydration and ensure proper blood perfusion for all of the vital organs like the brain and kidneys. Having an IV catheter in place always allows us to have emergency access to the bloodstream in case of any anesthetic difficulties. We use a special heating apparatus to help prevent hypothermia (body temperature loss) which is a serious side effect of any anesthesia. We have all of our patients connected to our cardiac monitor, which will signal the pulse rate, blood oxygenation level, blood pressure, breathing rate, temperature and carbon dioxide content (to be sure that your pet is exchanging carbon dioxide for oxygen properly).

We perform most kinds of soft tissue surgery in our clinic. All of our doctors are trained to do ovariohysterectomies (spays) and castrations (neuters), as well as tumor removals, foreign body removals, splenectomies and dental extractions. Intestinal resections, perineal urethrostomies (for blocked male cats), skin grafts, amputations and abscess surgeries are among the other major surgeries performed at the clinic. If any surgery requires a specialist surgeon, we will always refer you on to the proper board-certified specialist in order to be sure your pet receives the best of care.

Meyerland Animal Clinic is a full service veterinary hospital. We offer the most advanced diagnostics available for your pet. These include:
  • Tonometry which helps us check for increased pressure within the eyes, which may cause glaucoma
  • Blood pressure machines to help us assess whether your pet may have high blood pressure associated with certain diseases
  • Ultrasound machines which allow us to visualize the heart and abdominal organs in ways that an x-ray machine cannot, especially to see function of the heart (echocardiogram) and tumors within the abdomen
  • Endoscopy which allows us to visualize the internal stomach and intestinal tract without actual surgery
  • Dental x-ray and ultrasonic machines to provide the fastest and best quality way of providing dental care for your pet
  • Video otoscope machine for inner ear visualization for the doctor and client to see simultaneously
  • Digital x-ray machine to be able to assess your pet's body within seconds, with minimal radiation exposure
  • Full on-site blood work machines that allow us to be able to perform complete blood counts (CBCs) and complete blood profiles to assess the functions of most organ systems
  • EKG digital machines where we can assess the heart's rhythm within seconds
  • Viral testing kits for feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) as well as diagnostic kits for feline and canine pancreatitis and heartworm infection
  • Centrifuges to be able to determine an immediate hematocrit to check for anemia
  • Blood glucose monitors to help us follow diabetic pets and their blood sugar levels
  • Urinalysis abilities to assess urinary and kidney problems and infections
  • Culture and sensitivities on urine or bodily fluids in order to properly determine if an infection is present and what might be the proper antibiotic with which to fight it
  • Fecal testing by centrifugation, the gold standard, to help us determine if there is any infection present in your pet's intestinal tract
  • And finally, our Cold Laser Machine, which we use in many cases of arthritis management, pain control, skin infections and wound management
Preventive and wellness exams are essential for discovering problems early. Basic diagnostic tests will be recommended as a regular part of your pet's physical exam. Early detection can be life saving to properly manage many illnesses. Our goal is your pet's long-term health.

At Meyerland Animal Clinic, we consider your pet's continued good health and an informed owner as the true measure of success. You can always count on our qualified veterinarians, staff and state-of-the-art facilities to afford your pet the best care possible.
