Unfortunately, we need animal shelters. Fortunately, Houston has some of the best. Much more than just a place to dump unwanted animals, the humane organizations in the city perform services that work to improve the human animal relationship. By the thousands, these shelters adopt pets to loving and responsible homes. In greater numbers, they keep unwanted and orphaned animals from suffering a miserable existence. Few of us realize the other many other invaluable tasks they take on. From providing animals for pet therapy to investigating animal abuse, rescuing injured animals to educational presentations, these dedicated, caring folks put their heart in to helping Houston's pets, wildlife and domestic animals.
